Would you like to bring back memories of your underwater experiences to share with your friends and family?
Learn all the basics of shooting pictures underwater! (You do not need to own a camera.)
Underwater photography is the perfect way to bring back memories of your underwater experiences. Best of all, you can then share those experiences with both your diving and non-diving friends and family. Underwater photographers naturally develop a better knowledge of underwater life than most divers and tend to become more observant with practice. Underwater photography is an ideal companion for the vacationing diver, the shipwreck enthusiast or any diver who wishes to preserve or describe what is seen underwater. If you love telling people what diving is all about, then this is for you!
The SSI Digital Underwater Photography course will cover the basics of shooting pictures underwater. The lectures will cover camera types, strobe use, wide angle and macro lens use and picture composition. Course includes two lectures/classroom sessions, a pool session and two open water dives. Successful participants will receive SSI Digital Underwater Photography certification.
Once the digital pictures are captured, Northeast Scuba goes one step further and shows you basic editing techniques. Our instructors will demonstrate how to lighten or darken photos, erase unwanted “fish tails” and more. We use commercially available photo editing software.
Prerequisites: Open Water, Jr. Open Water or equivalent certification. Minimum age is 12. Parental consent required for participants under the age of 18.
Minimum of two open water dives.
Instructional Equipment: Students will receive the SSI on-line Digital Underwater Photography course. Northeast Scuba will supply camera, lens, and strobe if you do not already own an underwater photography kit.
Required Equipment and Materials: Students are responsible for providing a complete scuba equipment package including mask, fins, snorkel, boots, appropriate exposure protection, (students wishing to use dry suits must show proof of dry suit certification or they may elect to use Northeast Scuba’s dry suit option for the course), hood, mitts or gloves, BCD with LPI , regulator with octopus or alternate air source (not a “Spare air”), SPG, depth gauge, timer or watch, compass, weight system, two tanks, knife, whistle, RDP and log book. Note: Some of the very basic equipment items may be available for rental, however items such as masks, fins, snorkels, timers, knives, and whistles must be purchased.
